Nice University Hospital and Eurobiomed announce the selection of the first Third-Party Experimentation Site dedicated to skin health

3 December 2024

Le CHU de Nice et Eurobiomed annoncent la sélection du premier Tiers-Lieu d’Expérimentation dédié à la santé de la peau

Nice, December 3, 2024 – Nice University Hospital and the competitiveness cluster Eurobiomed announce the government’s selection of the Skin Experimentation Third Place, supported by the region and the regional health agency Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, as part of France 2030.

This validation, announced during the National Digital Health Innovation Day in Issy-les-Moulineaux, marks a major step forward for treatment of skin problems. The entire Third Place of Experimentation program is allocated €63 million, spread over the 5 years covered by the call for projects (2023 -2027) and is financed by the state as part of the national strategy of Digital Health acceleration of the France 2030 plan.

An alarming observation justifies this project: more than 20 million French people suffer from at least one skin disease, among the 6,500 identified pathologies by the French Society of Dermatology. Today, you have to wait on average three months to be able to consult a dermatologist, and this delay is often much longer in certain regions, which pushes almost one in two French people (46%) to give up seeking treatment. Faced with this situation, new technologies represent a promising solution to improve the detection and early treatment of these diseases.

Deployment in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur and Corsica regions

The Skin Experimentation Third Place is an innovative program where healthcare professionals, companies, researchers and patient associations collaborate to test and validate new digital solutions in dermatology. Deployed in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur and Corsica regions, it plans to include up to 6,000 patients for the first experimental projects. The solutions developed will make it possible to analyze different types of medical images to facilitate the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. The project will find its definitive place in the future Skin Institute, a physical location which will open its doors in Nice in several years.

This third place represents a unique opportunity to significantly improve the management of skin diseases“, declares Professor Thierry Passeron, head of the dermatology department at Nice University Hospital and project leader. “By combining medical expertise and digital technologies, we will be able to offer faster and more precise diagnoses, without invasive procedures. These technologies should also improve access to diagnosis and dermatological care. This is a major advance, particularly for patients living in areas where access to dermatologists is difficult..”

« The Skin third-party experimentation site perfectly illustrates our mission to federate and support major public-private projects in the region, which accelerate the health innovations of tomorrow », underlines Emilie Royère, General Director of Eurobiomed. “We are meeting all the stakeholders in April 2025 in Antibes for the first Skin Summit, which will bring together experts and innovators around the latest advances in dermatology.”
