Nice, December 3, 2024 - Nice University Hospital and the Eurobiomed competitiveness cluster announce the government's selection of the Tiers-Lieu d'Expérimentation Skin, supported by the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region and regional health agency, as part of France 2030.
This validation, announced at the Journée Nationale de l'Innovation en Santé Numérique in Issy-les-Moulineaux, marks a major step forward in the management of skin problems. The entire Tiers-Lieu d'Expérimentation program has a budget of €63 million, spread over the 5 years covered by theCall for Proposals (2023 -2027), and is funded by the French government as part of the France 2030 plan's national Digital Health acceleration strategy.
An alarming fact justifies this project: over 20 million French people suffer from at least one skin disease, among the 6,500 pathologies listed by the Société Française de Dermatologie. Today, it takes an average of three months to consult a dermatologist, and in some regions the wait is often much longer, leading almost one in two French people (46%) to forego treatment. Faced with this situation, new technologies represent a promising solution for improving early detection and treatment of these diseases.
Deployment in the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur and Corsica regions
The Tiers-Lieu d'Expérimentation Skin is an innovative program where healthcare professionals, companies, researchers and patient associations work together to test and validate new digital solutions in dermatology. Deployed in the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur and Corsica regions, it plans to include up to 6,000 patients for the first experimental projects. In particular, the solutions developed will make it possible to analyze different types of medical images to facilitate diagnosis and patient follow-up. The project will find its definitive home in the future Skin Institute, a physical facility due to open in Nice in several years' time.
" This one-stop shop represents a unique opportunity to significantly improve the treatment of skin diseases", says Professor Thierry Passeron, head of the dermatology department at Nice University Hospital and the project's initiator. " By combining medical expertise and digital technologies, we will be able to offer faster, more accurate diagnoses, without invasive procedures. These technologies should also improve access to diagnosis and dermatological care. This is a major step forward, particularly for patients living in areas where access to dermatologists is difficult."
" The Skin third-party experimentation facility is a perfect illustration of our mission to federate and support the region's major public-private projects, which are accelerating tomorrow's healthcare innovations," emphasizes Emilie Royère, Eurobiomed's Managing Director. "We look forward to seeing all the players in Antibes in April 2025 for the first Skin Summit, which will bring together experts and innovators to discuss the latest advances in dermatology."
