Professor Thierry Passeron, University Professor, hospital practitioner at Université Côte d'Azur, head of the dermatology department at Nice University Hospital and PI of a team at the INSERM/Université Côte d'Azur CRM laboratory dedicated to studying the molecular mechanisms involved in pigmentation and melanoma, shares his vision of Skin Excellence. Co-piloted with Eurobiomed, this initiative aims to create a world-class innovation hub in the field of skin health.
How does Skin Excellence unite the skin care community in the south of France?
The south of France is home to numerous industrial partners of varying sizes, leading research teams and innovative care facilities. Skin Excellence plays an essential catalytic role , fostering collaboration between all these players, whether from the industrial, scientific or medical worlds.
This synergy, orchestrated by Eurobiomed, is fundamental to the emergence of new projects and improved patient care. The Skin Excellence initiative, which is unique in France and internationally, is designed toprovide joint, innovative solutions by bringing together all the links in the chain. It also raises the profile of all these players on an international scale.
What role do events like the Skin Summit play in this dynamic?
The Skin Summit sets itself apart from traditional congresses by bringing together medical researchers, industrialists, CROs and start-ups in a collaborative approach. The aim is to create concrete interactions between all participants. These exchanges enable small structures to find new outlets, large groups to discover innovative solutions, and all players to develop fruitful collaborations.
What contribution will the future Skin Institute make to this innovation dynamic?
The Skin Institute will be a first in Europe. It will physically bring together all the key players in skin health: researchers, caregivers, manufacturers, CROs, startups and institutions. This unique convergence will not only provide a very high quality of care and facilitate access to it for the population, but will also enable large-scale preventive actions, and accelerate innovation, from fundamental research to therapeutic solutions.
How does the experimentation center fit into this strategy?
The digital skin health center is the first digital building block in this ambitious project. It responds to a crucial challenge: more than half of French people forgo dermatological care because they don't have access to a specialist. The skin, as a visible organ, lends itself particularly well to digital solutions - applications, imaging, tele-expertise. By working closely with patient associations in the development of these innovations, we ensure that they are relevant and rooted in real needs.
